I read an article on Generation X yesterday which was fairly bleak.  It was aimed at women, describing how so many Gen X women are unhappy, stressed, overwhelmed and burnt out – that makes me feel really sad, life just shouldn’t be like that!

Lots of reasons were listed for why they believe this to be true, it was a very long article and boy was it overcomplicated…..but I believe that the vast majority of us – men and women – are living our lives trying to please everyone but ourselves: it’s as simple as that (last weeks newsletter :-)).  We try to please our partners, our children, our friends, family, work colleagues, boss, we are so busy trying to please everyone we very rarely, if ever, take the time to please ourselves. In fact, we don’t really have any idea of how to please ourselves as we don’t really know who we are.

As children we absorb all manner of beliefs from parents, school, church, society etc and this is not wrong, in fact it generally keeps us safe, we need the guidance and structure this gives us. However,  most of us then carry a huge amount of these beliefs into adulthood and stick with them, never questioning them, not even questioning if the are really our beliefs – just accepting them as truths.

But why is that so important?

Because the biggest cause of unhappiness is spending your life trying to please everyone – an impossible task that leaves us feeling empty, lost and unfulfilled.

Life doesn’t have to be like this and it makes me feel sad that so many of us just accept it as ‘the way things are’

I know I’ve said  it before but the most important thing for you to be happy is to KNOW yourself.

Be honest, how many of us really KNOW ourselves?

Do you know your beliefs (not anyone else’s) in ALL areas of your life: money, relationships, parenting, health etc etc. Have you ever tried to work them out, written them down, looked at where they come from, questioned if you truly believe that?  It really is the only way to do it.

This is the way I did it when I was learning how to be a Coach and where I start with my coaching clients:

1. What do YOU believe about the issue you are coming to me with – your belief?
2. Where did you first experience that – where did that belief come from?
3. Find evidence of someone who does it differently – proof that that belief is not a truth.

Simple but powerful

If you get stuck with where you first experienced that belief (and lots of people do), this is where RTT is such a great tool. Under hypnosis we discover where your belief around an issue came from, and it is often not what we expect!

“I was very surprised to uncover the source of my limiting beliefs about money, revealing and traumatic, it made sense why I had behaved this way for so long.”

Releasing that belief allows you to put in YOUR belief, your truth and bingo, you are on your way to knowing yourself better!

“I felt a weight had been lifted off my shoulders and cleansed of a lifetime of emotional toxins around finances!”

Want to be happier?  Know yourself better 🙂
