Last week I ran a session for the Newark Breast Cancer support group, it was an evening session and they had asked me to do whatever I wanted as long as it was around 90 mins.  I had been told that I could do a talk and presentation about my new book, similar to the one I did for the Lowdham book festival.

However, it simply didn’t FEEL right, it felt like I would be promoting myself and encouraging  a group of women to buy my book, instead of doing something that could really help them. So, after some deliberation I decided that what I would love to share with them was some simple Mindfulness, a healing Meditation followed by a healing RTT (hypnosis) session, with time for questions and answers.

We had such a good discussion about how we could all live more fearlessly, a hard thing to do when you’ve had a diagnosis of cancer or any other life changing disease for that matter. How can we not fear the future? So we discussed how fighting against reality only ever leads to suffering, we are all exactly where we are and we cannot change that. We can however, change the way we think about our future, because no-one knows what the future holds for any of us, and we do have a choice whether we spend our time consumed in “what ifs” or whether we choose to spend more and more time in the present, enjoying the moment for exactly what it is.

Being in the present, really in the present, means it is impossible to feel anxiety, if we are anxious about the future then we cannot be in the present. We experimented with how using our 5 senses immediately brought us into the present and at that moment there is no worry, no anxiety and importantly we lower our stress response and start to trigger our relaxation response as this is where the healing can begin.  We also used breath as a way of bringing ourselves into the present and into our natural healing response.

You see, FEAR triggers our stress response and we know what damage that does to our mind and body, so you can appreciate the need to Fear less to help you on your journey back to well-being.

The other big issues that came up was we all need to LOVE more, and that starts with loving ourselves, loving our bodies (that we may feel have let us down), as love also triggers our relaxation response.

Then, I led a guided healing mediation where we filled ourselves up with Love for ourselves and Love for others and the energy could be felt in the room. I know some of you have experienced this at our 3E’s meet up or at the MOMM meditation.  I followed this with a gentle healing hypnosis session that focussed on eliminating anything that wasn’t supposed to be there and repairing, rebalancing and re-energising the body back to its optimal state.

I know that the women left feeling so much better than when they arrived, feeling more empowered as they left with some tools that they could use for themselves on their journey and the fact that I was able to touch their hearts, even for the briefest of moments made it all so worthwhile.

The ideas that we discussed though are really concepts that we should all take on board, how lovely if we could all Fear less and Love more, I’m sure our lives would be that much happier for it.
